2025 Heirloom Ornament~The Holly & The Ivy
A Lavish Sweet or Alms Bag Ornament Embroidered in Golde, Sylver, & Silke
8th in DKFA's Annual Heirloom Ornament Series Inspired by 17th Century Embroidery
This year's Stash Buster Ornament is a miniature version of the lavishly embroidered 17th c bags that are referred to today as Sweet Bags.
It is pictured above, atop the embroidery for a full-size bag, so its diminutive size can be appreciated. The bag itself, not including handles or tassels at the bottom, measures just 2 &3/4" x 2 & 3/4".
This class is a new Stash Buster Course~ meaning that everything except the materials to make it are included. It has become harder and harder for me to acquire materials needed in large enough quantities to offer full kits, so this is my solution so that I can keep designing and sharing wonderful projects with ya'll. I list every material you will need, & give sources on where to purchase... if you don't already have whatever it is in your stash~ but you more than likely do!
So what IS included?
Everything is contained in work at your own pace, *FULLY DOWNLOADABLE * PDFs on my Diamond K Folk Art Online Academy.
There are:
~5 pages of Patterns & Stitching Diagrams for Tent, Cross, Elizabethan Ground, Plaited Braid, Detached Buttonhole & Return stitches, and making pull knots
~Instruction is divided into 7 Lessons covering:
~History
~Fabric Prep
~Materials & Tools
~Silke Worke
~Metal Worke
~Raised Worke
~ Construction & Tassel Making
The 79 pages of step-by-step instructions are illustrated with over 440 photos and 7 private videos.

Everyone works at their own pace, but as a guide, the above shown bag took me just 56 hours and a few minutes to make from start to finish, and that included taking photos and writing notes as I went along!
If you would like to join me in this magical journey into sweet bags, the cost of the course is 285.00, and it can be purchased by clicking the button below
