Skarlet Ladye is my latest Heirloom Embroidered Christmas Ornament kit inspired by 17th c embroideries. This year I have designed this kit using my favorite motifs used on a beautiful 17th c embroidered petticoat. The ornament is made up of four panels, each of which is different.
There are birds and butterflies, acorns and berries, peas and strawberries, and gorgeous flowers. I carefully matched the colour palette with the embroidered petticoat; honestly, I love this ornament! It is absolutely my favorite thus far. The skarlet red silk taffeta is amazing. The addition of the black coils instead of silver or gold, really makes the design exquisite.
This is a super fun ornament to stitch. The bulk of the stitching is satin and long/short or silk shading. Split stitch, stem stitch and couching are also used.
I will show you how to divide the Ovale and Perlee threads into plys so that you have the right scale of thread to suit the scale of your stitching. The original petticoat has wonderful 'ghost' leaves filled with gilt spangles as seen above. A hint of tinsel on the ridges of the ornament gives it the perfect amount of BLING! on your tree, or where ever you decide to hang it. The ornament stands 5" tall, and each panel is just under 3" across at their widest center sections.
