Puffed Silkes~ 17th C Inspired Padded Silk Interiors

This class is a skills-based course that will walk you through the steps of making a padded interior for a casket or box. It is NOT a project-based course. I will teach you my methods for making a custom interior for whatever wooden box, jar, or container you have.  
Topics of instruction include, but are not limited to:
A brief history of 17th c casket interiors using weblinks for closeup views of extant examples
Required materials and where to source them
 Order of work
Box prep
Making templates to fit your own particular cavity
Constructing Paddings
Installing Paddings, flat silkes & papers

Also included is a bonus lesson on how to design & build custom cavity partitions as shown in the below photo of my gumwork casket.

Class will begin on 1 April, 2024. It is a work at your own pace class using your own materials. I will be available to you as your guide to help you compose, and complete an interior of your own design.

Beneath Thy Poft Oak


This 12-month in-depth course explores the art of 17th c bead work. Originally designed for a needlework seminar in Dallas Texas, this piece features a 17th c Ladye sitting beneath a Southern Post Oak tree, alongside a beautiful bush of yellow roses.

 Fully downloadable monthly lessons are accompanied by private youtube videos. You need not have any prior experience with any type of beadwork to take this class! 

Beading techniques taught in this course are:

Flat & Looped Cartouche Treatments, Speckling, In-Hand and Grounded(wire edge) Peyote Stitch, French Wired Leaves & Petals, Detached Techniques for Hair & Lace, Netted Overlays, How to design & work clothing pieces, working with mache figures, and how to make and assemble detached flowers. There is also an in-depth history lesson on glass & beads in 17th c England. 

All** materials needed to work the above pictured panel are included in the class kit, which will be mailed after full payment has been received.   **Students will need to provide their own slate frame, and basic tools like scissors, wire cutters, pliers, and tweezers. Assistance is provided for finding them online if you do not already have them.

The full class kit is INCLUDED in the price of the course. All beads included in the kit are in the above colours.

Gum Work~ The Art of 17th c Gummed Silk



This 3 month course explores the lost art of  17th c gummed silk. You will learn how to make your own, and how to use it once you have made it!  

Lesson One will teach you a brief history of Gummed Silk. You will also be given a class materials list and links to where to purchase the required materials for class, THERE IS NO CLASS KIT.  You will have the entire month to gather before we start making in Lesson Two.

Lesson Two will teach you how to make Gummed Silk sheets. There is both written instruction and several videos to help guide you.

Lesson Three will teach you how to prepare your ground surfaces & fabric for a gummed silk project. You will learn how to transfer the designs, make patterns, cut and glue gummed silk. You will learn tricks for cutting microscopically small pieces of silk, and how to compose bugs, flowers, and animals. You will learn wet techniques such as line work and curls, and how to embellish your gummed silk with inks, mica, and goldwork. Also included are two practice projects where I will walk you through the making of both a carnation and rose panel from start to finish.
